Dr. Kiran Gupta is Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, where she practices hospital medicine and serves as Medical Director for Quality and Safety of UCSF Health. Kiran is a nationally recognized expert in patient safety and quality improvement, and the co-author with Professor Bob Wachter of Understanding Patient Safety, 3rd Edition (McGraw-Hill).

Kiran was previously an attending physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she completed her residency in internal medicine as well as the Harvard Medical School Fellowship in Patient Safety and Quality. Prior to that, Kiran served as a Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the National Academy of Medicine in Washington, DC.

Kiran received her A.B. in Government with a Certificate in Health Policy from Harvard College, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Health Policy Review. She earned her M.D. from Harvard Medical School and received her M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health. Kiran writes about patient safety, quality improvement, and end-of-life care; she has been a correspondent for The Boston Globe and a columnist for the Financial Times Weekend Magazine.
